My name is Amanda Quintana and I am a senior at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah studying public health. I grew up in Deming, New Mexico, a small border town about 30 miles north of the Mexican border. Living so close to the border allowed me to see many around me get mixed up in the heavy drug trafficking that would take place in our area. I watched as lives of those I cared about were destroyed both by being ended or by being endured. This has caused me to become more interested in the topic of illegal drug abuse, its long and short term effects, and the fight against it.
